Fast food is a term to describe a quick and easy way to serve food. A typical fast food meal consists of a burger, fries and a soft drink.

People nowadays are so busy that all they do must come in instant, instant coffee, instant noodles and instant food that commonly served by fast-food chains. It is great because its fast, delicious and cheaper, but with the facilities and food as good as first-class restaurants.

Students are the common customers in those kinds of restaurants because there they can eat foods that appeal to their taste and to study as well, others even make it as a rendezvous and a tambayan.

Every time you ask a college student why they prefer eating in fast food chains, the main reason you’ll get will be it is fast, they are always in a rush so how come that they will go to carenderias which offers short order meals that will take time if they can have quick and instant food in McDo or Jollibee.

A student’s allowance is limited, they usually budget it and majority of its percentage is taken by food, so what they want is to buy a delicious yet cheap meal that can satisfy their hunger and save more money. Good-tasting food, a basic requirement for the hunger satisfaction of a student who is pressured in academic and school activities, so they give their self a prize, a nice and delicious lunch or snack to relax in the hassle of school life.

Buy two burgers get one free or a free upgrade of soft-drink, who can resist biting to these kind of offers? It is also one reason that they have packages for group of friends to afford a group meal which is a nice way to save money.

It is so awkward to see people eating in a place with a pail of sweat running through their faces that almost pour on the food they are eating, but fast-food restaurants provide customers with fully air-conditioned facilities to relax customers while they are eating even in a very hot season. They also provide customers with clean and sanitized comfort rooms whenever customers feel uncomfortable.

These days you can see fast-food restaurants almost everywhere, sometimes they appear in places where you don’t expect for an establishment to appear, they usually build a franchise beside a school, hospital, dormitories, condominiums and inside a mall. Fast-food restaurants in a gasoline stations are now their target and satisfy the hungry travelers.

From the welcomes to goodbyes crews are expected to be smiling even customers blame them for some mistakes, they are always ready to serve you even in your awkward demands and hear nothing except for a sweet smile.

Does the food in those restaurants are as healthy as the food served by our mother? Does it meet the required calories we need in a day?

It may be good-tasting and satisfies our hunger but those foods are not healthy as you expected and it is one cause of obesity of most Americans.

One effect of fast food that students are not aware is obesity, scientifically speaking its an increase of body adipose tissue (fat tissue) mass and it is a disease in which excess body fat has accumulated to such an extent that health may be negatively affected.

In 2004, American independent filmmaker, Morgan Spurlock created a documentary film entitled Super Size Me, it documents fast food’s possible drastic effects on human’s physical and psychological condition, he followed a 30-day time period during which he subsists entirely on food and items purchased exclusively from McDonald’s, he dined in McDonald’s three times a day and super sized his meal every time he is asked by the cashier. In that experiment he ate an average of 5,000 calories per day, after thirty days he gained 24.5 lbs, a thirteen percent body mass increase from his body weight of 185.5 lbs, his Body Mass Index(BMI) rose from 23.2 to 27 which is overweight. He also experienced mood, swings, sexual dysfunction and liver damage.

It explored the fast food industry’s corporate influence and how it encourages people to poor nutrition for the sake of its own profit. The factor for Spurlock’s investigation was the increasing numbers of obesity in U.S. society, which surgeons declared “epidemic” and lawsuits are filed to McDonalds in behalf of two obese girls who said as a result of eating McDonald’s food but the lawsuit filed had failed and argues form that fast food is psychologically addictive but not as addictive as nicotine although fast food received same criticism level as of the tobacco companies.

Despite of the negative accusations attacking fast foods, many people still continue having their meals in fast foods.

Fast food is now part of Filipino culture the fast and delicious foods that may cause us harm if we eat regularly, though it gives undergraduate Filipinos a nice and dependable job. Its industry now became larger and larger that even in remote areas you can see fancy fast food stores with funny and big mascots.

Though criticized, fast foods are now spread all over the world and its power continues to attract children and adults. So far there are several fast food chains in the Philippines and as the years pass by, there still a bunch to come.

Imagine your life without water, no goodmorning facial wash, afternoon bath, bubble bath, 5-minute shower and the most important no drinking water. This is the photo I took when I was about to take a bath, I open the faucet too loose and the water kept flowing. Minutes later I fixed the faucet and I was upset when I thought about how many liters of water I lost and people in Africa are short of drinking water.

I made this photograph to convince people how important water to our life and the drop indicates that years from now we can have the last drop of water in our life. It is not late to start moving and conserve. Think, Conserve, Live.

ARRRGGGHHHH!!!

The fragile baby was me, was born and placed in a near-death situation. Just lucky I am not in my consciousness back then. Death for me is a terrible thing to waste, an event in a person’s life which can instantly take his life and dreams away. I was shocked when my parents told me that and even though my brothers are laughing because of that incident, it is not a funny thing for me. They nearly lost a precious brother.

Death for me is a challenge and you can’t cheat it. We may recover from near-death situations but it’s a miracle work. The saying “Kung oras mo, oras mo na” may be overused, but the reality is in there. Hours or minutes later we may vanish in this world. One thing is for sure just like what the Catholic Church always say, when we die we will meet our creator.

I have relatives that died unexpectedly and I wasn’t able to see them in their last moments. You don’t have a choice but to accept but it will take time. At first it is easy for me to say that I’ll just accept it right away, but when the moment comes the lingering pain will haunt you from time to time. Like what I said you will learn to accept it months or years. To help me get over it, I usually visit them in cemeteries, and as the years passed by I gradually accepted it.

In the recent tragedy in M.V Princess, hundreds of passenger died and still half are missing. The relatives of the missing victims put all blame at the ship’s owners. Though months have passed they’re still looking for the bodies of their missing relatives, they’re maybe dead but the satisfaction for them to have it formally buried and to have the body to mourn can be a way to accept what had happened.

The usual Filipino burol, a 3-5 day vigil and visiting sessions with gambling and card game that help the family with the expenses for the burial. Relatives attending the burol usually didn’t allow the dead to be alone because its bad luck and the dead will get angry. You’re also not allowed to take a bath in your bathroom when someone is dead and there is a burol ongoing. It is still practiced nowadays, but for me its not real because there is no scientific basis, but still I respect my culture and I’m proud of it. Though burol is good, it has its bad side. People sometimes abuse it and conduct illegal gambling using the dead. They delay the burial and use it as props to earn money, an ugly practice of modern Filipinos.

People these days are afraid of two things, aging and death. They are somehow related because aging provokes death, because when you get old you are weakened and more prone to sickness. As a response food supplements and medicines were manufactured. It convinced people to buy because it says that it will make you feel younger, look ten years younger and increase your life span up to twenty years. The paranoid people were easily captured by their punch lines. They bought boxes and spent hundreds and thousands of pesos for the precious medicines. Though they say it is scientifically based, death is always around just like a killer waiting for your moment of isolation.

Others have suicidal crisis, they seek for death, maybe because of problems, poverty or depression. It is not a good practice because you don’t have to end your life in such a way because every problem has its solution and you’re making a big sin to God because he is the only one who has the right to take lives.

I maybe dead now because of the incident back in 1991, but I’m still here staying strong, writing and discovering my talents that God gave me. Maybe God placed me in that situation in order to test me for the future and whenever I reflect and think about it, it helps me keep alive and strong hoping it will not happen again. Death is a scary thing but you don’t have to be afraid. Treat uncertainties as strength to help you keep strong. Its just a bitter part of our lives and don’t make it destroy you, fight to your last breath. Just always pray so that when the time comes, He will be on your side. Whatever happens, God remains good.

Does  it mean new, modern, hi tech, altenative or innovative?

For me technology means no job, thats why people do bad things such as robbery, drug abuse and murder. No job means poverty, here in the Philippines we are covered with poverty, we can’t hide it, but even though we are in the 3rd world we should not lose hope and confidence strive for higher goals and acheivements.

How many times do I have to say that I hate numbers.

Since my elementary days math has been my waterloo. I don’t know why but I always find dealing with numbers so difficult. From the basic and simple additions to sine and cosine numbers, it just continue to bother and haunt me.

Now in my college days I still encounter mind-popping math problems. I don’t know this semester if I will get a nice grade in my Algebra and just like what I always say back in my highschool days that in my college I will choose a course that will need no math and numbers. But now, numbers refused to leave me because it loves me but I don’t love it.

Its true not all of us have the talent in dealing with numbers, just like me. I always, always, always, always and always and still always try my very very very very very best to understand it but still my mind is not for numbers, it discards all the information and computations I hardly tried to encode. Maybe just like the old saying says, when God distributed the talent in math I am sleeping and failed to get one, which make me feel mad back in my elem days.

I always smile whenever they tell me that what is the use of algebra and numbers when you already have your job, and no math is required when you write, take photographs and deal with people. But why do we have to study math!!!???? I don’t know.

Although I hate it, many were math and numbers fanatic, these are the people that however hard the math problems are they still manage to answer right away, as if they were eating Sunflower seed while watching baseball, and I confess I do really get envy and jealous to those people because whenever we have mind-bursting math problems and I am exchanging faces with the paper and calculator almost crazy and I will see them relaxed and smiling, it feesl like they’re teasing me and saying, “Simple math and it looks like you’re dying?” Well, its true *laughs*

Despite the hatred for math that formulated in my mind, I know the uses of these “precious” numbers, we need math to build bridges, buildings, houses, cellphones and our gadgets used creating blogs. So I concluded, not bad.

But still, I do not have the talent in using these numbers. Sometimes I doubt if I’m dumb or what because some of my classmates who’re bad in subjects such as Reading and Language, they manage to deal with my worst enemy.

This moment I’m still thinking about my Algebra class, will I fail or pass? One thing is for sure, not all people are good in math but do excel in certain subjects and vice-versa and we can’t be perfect in all areas.
